Innovative full PE solutionsÂ
The proven MDO (Machine Direction Orientation) technology from Hosokawa Alpine is a key element in manufacturing high-performance single-material laminates based on polyethylene. It is only by monoaxial orientation that outstanding film characteristics can be achieved that allow PE film structures to substitute PET or BOPP films. These include:
- High stiffness
- Increased oxygen transmission rate
- Excellent optical properties
- Reduction of film thickness
These outstanding film properties are fundamental for the lamination and printing of full PE packaging films. Economy of production is ensured by Hosokawa Alpine‘s unique TRIO technology “Trim Reduction for Inline Orientation” that significantly reduces the amount of edge trims.
Alpine’s unique vacuum technology optimizes the flatness of the films. This achieves outstanding roll quality and enables easy further processing of MDO PE.
Heavy duty sacks
Customized for the formulations and dimensions required to produce heavy duty shipping sacks. This dedicated concept combines
- very high output rates with
- excellent thickness tolerance and
- high reel quality.
The films are further processed on FFS lines designed to produce heavy duty shipping sacks. To this end, the film is fed from a reel as a side gusseted tube. The film tube can either be made directly on the blown film line or be produced by means of a longitudinal welding process from single sheet film made on the blown film line.

ACE
Extrusion
In the extrusion sector the use of edge fixing electrostatic charge bars is essential. The ACE EP/3 solution, consist of two charging bars equipped with three electrodes, installed at the two sides of the extruded film on the chill-roll drum, to completely eliminate the problem of shrinkage of the film (neck-in), or the bending of the edges.
IONDUAL 24V antistatic bars instead helps a trouble-free film winding without accumulation of electrostatic charges on it at all speeds.
Here also applies ACE Electrostatic Changeover System. With the help Electrostatic Assistance, it replaces the traditional manual application of double-side tape adhesive, normally used to fix the film on the cartonboard core for the winding of new rolls.
Blown Film
During the sleeve blowing stage, BB Iondual 24V antistatic bars find their application. In fact, when correctly installed they eliminate the problem of blown film slipping, actively participating to stabilizing the sleeve moving upwards.
Equally then, in the second part of the process of transformation of the sleeve into a double web, BB Iondual 24V will eliminate all the problems caused by electrostatic charges negatively influencing the film winding operation. Here as well, ACE Electrostatic Changeover find its important application, replacing and thus eliminating the application of double-side tape adhesive on the cores of the new reels.

Somatec
Winding machines for plastic film
Plastic films have very different characteristics and will be used for many applications. The range goes from the classic PVC-film (in soft, semi-rigid and rigid qualities) to PE-film, PU-film, PP-film and at least to ductile and rigid PET and PC-film. Often multi-layer films made by a combination of different films are produced.
Winders and Re-reelers from SOMATEC are designed exactly for the characteristics and demands of the corresponding plastic films. So very thin and soft films as well as thick and rigid films can be wound with different concepts and settings.
Extrusion of Film
Flat or blown film extrusion lines are most likely operating 24/7 and therefore automated waste handling is necessary. The objective of the waste handling system is to support the effectiveness of the extrusion process as well as to handle the trim waste in spite of the web width and type of material extruded.
Benefits & features
- The volume of the waste reduced more than 10 times
- The size of the waste makes the possibility of the recycling easier
- A clean environment is kept as dust is exhausted together with the trims
- The systems can include separation into different types of films, also that the waste is converted into pellets
Over the years Lundberg Tech has installed a number of waste handling systems for extrusion of among others PE, HDPE, OPP films and multiple layer film. These systems have proven that by no means waste handling is the bottleneck in the film extrusions.
Commonly, operating 24/7 in the extrusion demands a highly automated and self-operating Central System. Lundberg Tech has the ability to design and install such a Central System covering multiple number of extrusion lines.
If waste from only one film extrusion line or a limited number of extrusion lines must be handled the Lundberg Tech All-in-one Units are a great alternative.
Both the Lundberg Tech designed Central Systems and All-in-one Units are equipped with our own developed and manufactured Granulator. The Granulator can cut film regardless of thickness, down to 8 microns and with a width up to 660mm.
Applications & Grades
They are a base material in applications that do not require any formability beyond minimal bending and/or roll-forming.
